The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters,
he refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
(Psalm 23:1-3 NIV)
One element of Soul Care, indeed a very important element, is rest. As a Christian, rest was given as a gift immediately after creation and right before being given the task of caring for creation.
One of the most often quoted passage of the Bible, Psalm 23, talks about rest and nature together. God refreshes us in nature - in a pasture beside water. So to me, they go hand in hand. Even from my own experience and from hearing others experiences, the rest that sitting in nature brings is remarkable.
If we find refreshment and rest in nature, then it stands to reason, that taking care of that nature allow us to continue to find rest in it. It's symbiotic really. You take care of me and I will take care of you.
Many people even find rest in caring for creation: care for pets, livestock, bees, and gardening, as examples. So this a main reason I have chosen to focus on the 2 elements together.
